Saskatchewan Potash

Saskatchewan is one of the prairie provinces and is located in the west-central Canada. Saskatchewan’s potash resources occur in the “Commercial Potash Mining Belt”, where holds more than 50% of world’s potash reserves. In Saskatchewan, the potash beds deposit within the uppermost strata of the Prairie Evaporite Formation, which mainly contains salt deposit with anhydrite interbeds. The overlying upper Prairie Evaporite Formation has three principal potash-bearing members and one auxiliary member comprised of several discreet “marker beds”. Three potash members in ascending stratigraphic order are the Esterhazy Member, the Belle Plaine Member and the Patience Lake Member. These potash members are generally flat lying and are composed of interbedded sylvite, halite, carnallite, clays and minor anhydrite.
